HISTORY
Saint Achileo Kiwanuka, one of the 24 Ugandan Catholic martyrs, was born around 1869 at Lulagala in the Ssingo area of Buganda (present-day Mityana). As a young boy, he served at the royal court of Kabaka Mwanga II as a page and messenger, where he learned reading and writing and developed a strong love for the Christian faith. After his baptism in November 1885, he remained steadfast in his belief despite persecution and was burned alive for his faith at Namugongo on 3 June 1886 at the age of 17. He was later canonized among the Uganda Martyrs by Pope Paul VI in 1964.
St. Achileo Kiwanuka was chosen as patron of the parish for two main reasons. Firstly, because of his inspiring witness of youthful courage, purity, commitment to service, and unwavering faith in Christ and secondly because some of his descendants and relatives reside in Migadde. His life continues to be a powerful example especially for young people and for all parish members called to serve faithfully in their daily responsibilities.
