Saint Achileo (Achilleus) Kiwanuka,
One of the 24 Ugandan Catholic martyrs, was born around 1869 at Lulagala in the Ssingo area of Buganda (present-day Mityana). As a young boy, he served at the royal court of Kabaka Mwanga II as a page and messenger, where he learned reading and writing and developed a strong love for the Christian faith. After his baptism in November 1885, he remained steadfast in his belief despite persecution and was burned alive for his faith at Namugongo on 3 June 1886 at the age of 17. He was later canonized among the Uganda Martyrs by Pope Paul VI in 1964.
